Statement on the recent Atkinson Elementary School Incident Dear friends and supporters: Last week, members of our staff were leading a Know Your Rights presentation at Atkinson Elementary School in southeast Portland. As attendees were leaving the session, they noticed posters that were intentionally placed on school grounds with hateful and inflammatory anti-immigrant messaging. Brenda Fox, the Principal of Atkinson Elementary, sent a letter home to families of their students describing the incident, stating the safety of their students is the top priority and that police had been immediately informed. We stand with the leadership at Atkinson Elementary and support their recognition of the severity of this situation. The education of our community is important and Latino Network is committed to continuing this work. In partnership with Portland Public Schools (PPS) and other partner school districts, Latino Network is committed to ensuring a safe and welcoming space is provided to our community members attending future Know Your Rights sessions. If you have questions or for more information, contact David Martinez at davidm@latnet.org.
