Wendy joined the School Based Programs team as a Youth Engagement Specialist in 2016. In her position, she implements programs that encourage and support youth to seek post-secondary education and pursue careers of their choice.

As the daughter of parents who emigrated from Jalisco Mexico, Wendy’s motivation for her work at Latino Network is to show middle and high school students that they can achieve anything if they set their minds to it – and she enjoys helping them along the way.

Wendy is a graduate of Western Oregon with a degree in Health Education, and she has previously worked with Oregon Pacific Area Health Education Center as a program instructor and coordinator. There, she worked with high school and middle school students in rural Oregon schools to prepare them for careers in the medical field. She has also worked as a substitute teacher in the Salem-Keizer School District, and she has her ESOL in bilingual endorsement.

When she isn’t working for Latino Network, Wendy enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, traveling and watching Netflix. She also enjoys trying new foods and going to new restaurants. Although she makes the commute from Silverton to Portland everyday, she still loves exploring the city’s food cart scene!
