Volunteers Needed for Kermés Fundraiser for Scott SUN School!

Harvey Scott School K-8 is putting together a family-friendly event & fundraiser with multicultural activities for their SUN Community School program. We are looking for volunteers to help us through varies activities, such as set up, face painting, selling food, managing game stations, etc.

We have time-slots available. You can sign up for your preferred time!

Join over 2,000 volunteers around the region (and 100,000 across the country) for Comcast Cares Day 2017!
 

Come lend a hand and be a part of beautifying Hartley Elementary School (100% of the student population receives free lunch) located in the Rockwood neighborhood. This school serves a diverse student body, and would benefit greatly from some TLC. Let's show these kids that the wider community cares! Teachers and students will be in for a wonderful surprise when they return to school on Monday and see all of the awesome improvements volunteers have made to their school!

At the end of the project, all volunteers will come together for a thank-you lunch to celebrate our efforts to make change happen.

Painting Up Harvey Scott!

Join Latino Network at Scott School K-8 as we touch up different areas around the school that need a new coat of paint. From cafeteria pillars and outside pillars, to the playground area, to helping cover up walls that have been graffitied, join us for this opportunity to make Scott Elementary shine!

Wear closed-toed shoes and clothes that you are not worried about getting paint on.

As you volunteer, you will learn more about Latino Network and the Scott SUN Community School geared toward youth and their family to build community ties, strengthen their family, and ensuring student success in the classroom and their lives.

Volunteers can park in the school parking lot on 66th st. If the parking lot is full, volunteers can park along the street of Prescott or 66th.

Volunteers Needed for César Chávez Day!

Interested in Getting More Involved in the Community?

In honor of César Chávez and his legacy, Latino Network is working together with César Chávez school to celebrate all of his amazing work. We are looking for volunteers to help us with service projects! 

Volunteers will be working with teachers and students through service activities at the school and participate in the student led march around the neighborhood.

MLK Day of Service! (Postponed)

Update: Due to the weather we are rescheduling this service project.

Volunteers will be helping Scott Elementary by repainting different areas around the school that need a new coat of paint. Areas include the cafeteria pillars, outdoor pillars, and the playground area. As well as covering up walls that have been tagged by graffiti. 

Volunteers should dress to accordingly to the weather. There are going to be outside areas that will be painted such as the playground. Also volunteers should consider dressing in clothes that they are not worried about getting paint on it. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to learn more about Latino Network and the SUN after school program geared toward youth and their family to build community ties, strengthen their family, and ensuring student success in the classroom and their lives.

Volunteer at the Blazer's 50/50 Raffle for Latino Network!

Latino Network is looking for volunteers for two Portland Blazers games to sell 50/50 raffle tickets. Part of the proceeds from the raffling will given to Latino Network to help continue to support the services and programs we provided for the community. 

All volunteers will receive a ticket for the remainder of the game, a food discount voucher, and a Latino Network t-shirt! A special prize will be given to the top seller!

Group Volunteer Opportunity with Juntos Aprendemos

Prepping supplies for Juntos Aprendemos: Help our instructors prepare materials for early childhood education program. Activities include cutting out shapes for kids to create calendars, making puppets, or other preparation work. Volunteer with the Noche Bella Committee

Noche Bella: Join the awesome Noche Bella committee and help us plan this amazing fundraiser/party! Looking for committee members interested in helping us procure auction items, recruit other volunteers, and plan the event!


PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Noche Bella is Latino Network’s annual fundraiser gala! It occurs each September and includes a cocktail reception, silent & live auction, three-course dinner, honoring a Latino/a leader with the Aguila Award for Excellence, and live band and dancing. The goal of the evening is to raise funds to support Latino Network’s programs for youth and adults in Multnomah County and Oregon, and to bring together our community to celebrate accomplishments. 

VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with other committee members to brainstorm silent & live auction items, and to procure silent & live auction items for the fundraiser
  • Assist with planning for decorations & entertainment at the event
  • Recruit volunteers for night-of activities
  • Help with other logistical event activities

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:

None 

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE (OPTIONAL BUT PREFERRED):

  • Outgoing person who is comfortable calling businesses and/or individuals to request donations (with training/coaching)
  • Experience with galas as a planner or attendee
  • Interest in decorating & planning entertainment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • None

TIME REQUIREMENT:

Monthly committee meetings in the evening. 

Volunteer with Teen Nights

Teen Nights: Be a role model for gang-involved and at-risk youth! Volunteer with our Teen Nights program, which provides safe spaces on weekends (Fri/Sat nights) at local community centers for gang-involved and at-risk youth, primarily young men, to stay off the streets. Must have experience or be interested in working with gang-involved and high-risk youth. Preference for males of color, but accept all volunteers. [Full volunteer description coming soon]

Volunteer with Adult ESL Programs

ESL: Help a Latino/a adult practice English! Volunteer with our Bienvenidos ESL program as a tutor for adults learning English. You will work one-on-one with adults in the program having conversations in English after the formal lesson for the evening. Click here for full volunteer description.

Volunteer ESL Classroom Assistant

Volunteer Description and Responsibilities

Supports ESL Instructor, shares activities and ideas, guides individual students during bookwork activities, and encourages English conversation among students

Language Requirement

Intermediate Spanish preferred but not required

Skills & Knowledge

Experience with adult classroom instruction or tutoring ESL preferred but not required

Time Requirement

Classes are offered twice a week either 12:30-2:00pm or 6:00-7:30pm depending on location. Volunteers are asked to be there twice a week. Class schedule will depend on the instructor's schedule.

Volunteer with Escalera

Escalera: Make a difference in the life of a high school Latino/a student by helping them graduate from high school and go on to college! Volunteer with our high school college preparation and career readiness program helping the instructor with fun programs, student career and college exploration, and building a college-going mindset. Need volunteers to commit to weekly or every other week help in the afternoon for at least 2 school terms (4 months). [Full volunteer description coming soon]
