Raul joined the Latino Network team in spring of 2016 as the Family Stability Program Coordinator, and transitioned to the Civic Leadership & Integration Program Coordinator later in the fall. He helps Octaviano Merecias - the Policy & Civic Engagement Manager - with policy and leadership-related causes in the Latino Community.

Born in Guadalajara, Mexico and growing up in Alaska, Raul has always been motivated to address social injustices and help families break the cycle of poverty. Raul has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Alaska, Anchorage and is currently studying for his master’s in public policy at Portland State. He has previously worked for the State of Oregon, Portland State University and the Oregon Community Foundation.

When he isn’t doing awesome things with us at the Latino Network, Raul is involved with the Oregon Business Council’s Anti-Poverty Taskforce, where he continues his involvement in helping people in our community.

Along with reading and walking his dog, Raul enjoys hiking and exploring the Pacific Northwest in his free time. He also loves trying the awesome food that the Portland restaurant scene has to offer.
