Maria joined the Family & Youth Engagement team in fall 2015. She will be working with the Conexiones middle school leadership program.

Previously, she worked in Nicaragua developing a sexual education program for girls. She has also worked with the Upward Bound TRIO program tutoring and mentoring high school youth. She is passionate about making an impact in the Latino community and working with families.

Born in Mexico, she has lived in the United States for most of her life. She graduated from Western Oregon University with a B.S. in Social Science with a Criminal Justice focus and a B.A. in Spanish with a Humanities minor. She is proud of being the first one in her family to graduate from college. She also spent time studying at the Universidad de Puerto Rico Rio Piedras through a student exchange.

She currently serves on the development team for a Teen Pregnancy Prevention program in Nicarague through Casa Verde. In her spare time, she likes to travel, hike, cook, read, and spend time with family and friends.
