Humberto joined the Latino Network SUN Community School team in 2016 as the SUN School Manager for Scott School. There, he continues to create sustainable partnerships with community organizations to bring academic and social support services to students and their families.

Humberto was born in a rural town in Oaxaca, Mexico and emigrated to the U.S. when he was eight years old. His main motivation for working to help the Latino Community stems from his parents – they worked tirelessly to provide a better life for him and his siblings, and their determination and resiliency motivates him to help people everyday.

Humberto received a B.A. in sociology from Willamette University in Salem, and he continues to be part of many community organizations, including Basic Rights Oregon and Unite Oregon. He transitioned to Latino Network from Impact Northwest after the RFP process. Before joining our team, he worked as a Latino Academic Advocate with the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO).

When he isn’t helping his students at Scott School, Humberto enjoys hiking, shopping and listening to good music. He also enjoys spending time with his family and friends. His favorite part about Portland is all of the great nearby hiking opportunities that the city has to offer.
