<p>On January 24, 2013, Unión=Fuerza will bring together diverse groups of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and<br />

<p>Nancy’s life calling to build on the capacity of people and organizations to create social change is rooted in her binational experience. She was born in Morelos, Mexico, and has lived in Oregon for over 20 years. Throughout her career in the non-profit sector she has designed, enhanced, and directed programs and initiatives that promote the leadership development, educational advancement, and health of the Latino community. Recognizing the interdependence of all communities to thrive, she has also consulted with many organizations and all levels of government to increase intercultural awareness and action, understand the impact of oppressive systems and behaviors, and design strategies to meaningfully engage people of all backgrounds in developing innovative sustainable solutions.</p>
<p>Nancy holds a Master of Arts in Leadership &amp; Organizational Development from Saybrook University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Administration of Justice from Portland State University. She also studied at Universidad Latina de América in Morelia, Mexico, and received political training at Harvard University.</p>
<p>She loves music, travel, and above all, spending time with family, friends, and her dog Mambo.</p>

The Diversity and Civic Leadership Academy</p>
<p>The Latino Network&#8217;s Civic Engagement and Leadership Academy Program works with young emerging Latino English-speaking leaders and Spanish-speaking community members. We hold monthly trainings on social justice models; regional government; leadership development; social determinants of health; economic, environmental and social sustainability; civic engagement; working with public and elected officials; and community organizing. Trainers from the government, non-profit and private sector&#8217;s provide participants the opportunity to learn first-hand from their real-world leadership experience. </p>
<p>Program participants identify critical community issues and develop an advocacy plan through an action-learning project that creates a positive community impact need. </p>
<p>The Academy has 45 Latino alumni working for the betterment of our community. </p>
<p>Latino Network&#8217;s Civic Engagement and Leadership Program is supported through grants from the City of Portland, Northwest Health Foundation, the Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, and Western States Center.</p>
