Meet the Montiel Family

Meet the Montiels

Genaro Montiel and his wife were looking for a program for their shy four-year-old daughter Itzel. They heard about Juntos Aprendemos and liked that it was in Spanish as they are raising their children to be bilingual.

When Genaro went to sign Itzel up two years ago, all the spots were full. But that didn’t stop Genaro. Every Monday for three weeks, he showed up at the school with Itzel waiting for a spot to open up. Finally, it did.

Genaro & Itzel Thrive

Montiels Thrive

Once in Juntos Aprendemos, Itzel began to come out of her shell. She learned the basic skills for kindergarten – how to write her name, how to use scissors, how to count to ten, and the alphabet.

Genaro was learning, too. “I have also learned how to be a better parent to my children. I have learned to communicate in a positive and loving way, and how to boost their self-esteem.”

Ready for Kindergarten

When Itzel started Kindergarten, she was prepared! She thrived in the classroom – and her parents believe Juntos Aprendemos was the critical piece of that transition.

Genaro and his wife are active parents at the school, engaging with teachers and other parents to create a strong community and the best future for their children.

Giving Back

Itzel and Diego

Today, Itzel’s younger brother Diego attends Juntos Aprendemos. And Genaro is now a volunteer. He shows up every week to support the Juntos Aprendemos instructors and the new parents who want the best future for their children. He is especially passionate about creating a support system for Latino fathers.
